Artist Statement
Over the years I’ve spent summers weaving through timber and open sagebrush meadows, riding on various cow permits in the Bighorn Mountains, gathering cows and looking for remnants. I’ve worked on cowboy crews, moving cattle, and starting colts. I’ve spent cold, dark winter nights riding night drops: calving. These are the experiences that inform my imagery.
It’s not only my passion for traditional western lifestyle, but also my love and respect for nature, tempered by my individual spiritual and social concerns that define me. Animals play an inherent role in my life and work, and are often imbued with attributes displaying “the human condition.” I move between drawing, painting and photography.
Essentially my work is a conversation with life, and my response to it.
